Trip to Linen Museum, Lisburn

3rd Nov 2017

As part of our World Around Us topic of the Ancient Egyptians, we went on a trip to the Linen Museum in Lisburn. The tour was called Flax to Linen and the pupils heard lots of information from our fantastic guide Philip about how linen is made and what types of things were used in ancient Egypt to make colouring! . One of these was using beetles and children were given a tiny part of a beetle to squeeze! Ashleen and Padraig even had a go at spinning thread on the spinning wheel. We then had two workshops, during which children got to make their own death mask like King Tutankhamun and canopic jars, which were used in ancient Egyptian times to hold the organs of the body after you died! Very gruesome! Overall, a great day out which greatly enhanced the learning in the classroom.
