P4/5 Visit to Hillsborough Castle
23rd Apr 2024
Today, the children visited 18th Century built Hillsborough Castle for an out of the classroom learning experience. During the visit, the children got to explore the castle as a ‘family home’, as well as a ‘working home’. We went on a guided tour with Claire who brought the history of the castle to life through lively, interactive learning opportunities. We visited the State Entrance, the Anteroom, the Red Room, the Dining Room, the Throne Room and the Drawing Room. As King Charles’ official Northern Ireland residence, Claire showed and discussed a variety of paintings, furniture and artefacts that were on display, including many photographs of King Charles and his family, along with the tiara worn by the late Queen Elizabeth. After lunch, we visited the play park. We had a great day exploring, learning new things and having fun!
