P4/5 -Visit from Declan Carville
Local author Declan Carville visited our school last week. He talked about his many books, his inspiration for writing them and read some of the stories to the children. Based on children having read his book Nelly Fandango, he spoke to the children about his ideas for the story and how he brought them to life in his book. Having looked at some of the wonderful artwork on Nelly Fandango by the P4/5 class, he showed them original sketches of some of the characters drawn by illustrator Melvin Carroll. Declan then did a writing workshop with both classes, showing how he uses a storyboard to plan out his story. He shared some writing tips and got the children involved in helping to plan the next part of a story started in class. To quote Declan, “The great thing about writing is that you can write about anything you like”. A wonderful, inspiring experience for the children.
